Once a pioneering wife, caught by indians left this life

Wolf Girl, you best run home

A female lobo found her there, raised her in a lobo lair
While her love, the river, with the wolf pack soon she ran
Wildest creature in the West, much more cunning than the rest
Lived among the lobos and never knew a man

and their leader, it's often told
Is that Wolf Girl of Devil's River
To hear her call makes blood run cold...

A hunt was organized one day to bring the lobo back to base
For seven days and seven nights they chased them in their flight
At last, inside a lobo lair, Wolf Girl fell exhausted there
They took her to a holding shack and tied her for the night

Wolf Girl, you best run home

At night the moon was sailin' high, a thousand lobos gave their cry
Back to camp to kill each man who tried to steal their queen
Wolf Girl led the pack away, "You'll get it now at close of day"
echoed through the canyon of the river's wide ravine
